Parashat Beshalach: In Honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. - Get Going!

January 6, 2021

Dear Temple Family,

Many of us spent the day glued to the news, as we watched protestors in our Capitol building threaten the very foundation of our democracy. We are shocked and disturbed by the incited violence that we witnessed today. This afternoon, President-elect Joe Biden referred to the peaceful transition of power as a "sacred ritual." In our Temple and our tradition, we value the power of sacred rituals. We pray for the continued health and safety of our democracy and speak out against all acts of violence.

Oseh shalom bimromav, Hu ya'aseh shalom aleinu, v'al kol yisrael, v'al kol yoshvei teivel
May the One who makes peace in the high heavens make peace here for us, for all Your people Israel, and for all citizens of the world.

We offer this prayer for our country as a source of strength and support. Do not hesitate to reach out if you wish to speak further about recent events in our nation. We hope you will join us for Shabbat services this Friday evening at 5:30pm as we continue to pray for peace.

L'shalom - with prayers for peace,
Rabbi Liz P.G. Hirsch
Lanny Zuckerman, Temple President
